Cooler than average temps, slightly cooler sales

Temperatures around the state this summer were just below average, a small chill in the air that restaurants in the Twin Cities felt too. Sales for August dropped 3.25% compared to last August, keeping pace with the trailing 12 month rate of -3.64%.

At the beginning of the month, the X Games brought in a projected 115,000 attendees to the Twin Cities, but this year’s four-day action sports event was subdued in terms of local spending – down nearly 9% for the duration of the games. Overall, it wasn’t a month with big moves, with sales falling in the mid-range for the past 12 months.
