Restaurant Monthly Sales Trend

Washington, DC | October 2018

by MarginEdge Data Science

DC area restaurants followed the general trend of this year in October, falling behind the 2017 numbers by 1.07%. One important thing to note, however, is that the aggregate sales in the DC area for restaurants are, instead, very much on the rise. According to the restaurant performance index published by the National Restaurant Association, the number of restaurants has been expanding extremely rapidly in the last calendar year with no signs of decline, increasing the number of choices for consumers.  Sadly the number of new locations is slightly outpacing overall spending causing some restaurants to close and pushing overall year over year spending at existing restaurants down 1% in the trailing twelve months.

About these metrics:   The MarginEdge monthly snapshot of DC Metro restaurant sales is based on a sampling of 100+ area restaurants ranging from fast-casual to full-service.
