September saw good re-growth.

Minneapolis/St. Paul’s restaurants made a lot of progress between August and September, in looking at year-over-year open restaurant sales. It’s pretty close to the rest of the country, which is impressive considering some parts of the country are further along in their re-opening guidance.

Before we get too excited though, we’ll note that part of the recent bump up may have come from restaurants closing (either temporarily or permanently). Since the first graph shows “open restaurant sales,” by losing some of the struggling restaurants in that sample, our averages now look more favorable. You can see closures ticking up in our second graph.

We hope restaurants are becoming equipped to maintain this great progress even in cooler weather!
