November held on (mostly)

DMV restaurant sales held on most of November, falling a bit in the second half of the month. This isn’t surprising given the increase in cases, decrease in temperatures impacting the viability of outdoor dining, and it seems like a lot of people “hunkered down” leading up to Thanksgiving day in order to feel safer about seeing family and friends.

So far August has been the best pandemic month for average open restaurant sales – but luckily September, October, and November haven’t been too far behind.

However there is an increasing divide between full service and fast casual, with fast casual sitting well above the -33.8% average and full service falling well below.

Delivery grew to almost 20% of open restaurant sales in a 7-day moving average – a trend we expect to continue through December, especially when new restrictions are in place.
