Up and up!

DC-area restaurants, unsurprisingly, faced another tough month in January. January was only
slightly better than December (at -43.0% year-over-year open restaurant sales vs. -47.7% in
December). There’s been a lot of hurdles in the way of better sales, especially having indoor
dining banned in the District all but 8 days of the month. Non-DMV sales fared better this
month – even crossing the 0% year-over-year line thanks to New Years Eve celebrations in the
south.

Although it’ll still be cold, we’re hopeful that February sales will start to see the effects of the
vaccination rollout.
