November stays positive with sustained growth in the DMV

Fast casual gained momentum last month, ending its monthly average at 5% increased sales compared to November 2021, while Full Service continued to stay positive at a 7% year over year increase.

Over the majority of 2022, sales have remained incredibly stable across both segments so the day-to-day swings now represent more nuance than the chaotic swings brought to us by pandemic shutdowns.

Overall sales ended up at a 7% increase compared to this time last year, with a definite uptick towards the Thanksgiving holiday.

Broken down by segment, Fast Casual surpassed Full Service ending at roughly 8% and 6%, respectively, during the last week of November. This is the first time since last year that Fast Casual sales increased more than Full Service, which could more than likely be driven by home-cooking burnout from Thanksgiving. We're hopeful that Full Service will reign once again in December!

In-house delivery sales also increased last month for both the DMV (at 12%) and nation-wide (at 14%), which is to be expected and follows last year's trend around this time. It's no secret that colder weather and more time spent at home thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday would boost delivery rates.

We’re looking forward to the start of 2023, as sales are remaining stable and positive. The holidays tend to be a wonderfully busy time for restaurants in the DMV (and when you look at the huge growth both segments saw last year this time it’s no question!), so we are really excited to see what December sales bring.

We’ll see you in 2023!
