August 2025 national restaurant sales metrics are here!
The trailing 4-week (28-day) average of year-over-year (YOY) sales for Fast Casual came in at +3.6% and Full Service at +1.4% at the end of August compared to 2024 sales.
Across the 7-day moving average chart, we saw positive sales throughout the month for Fast Casual, and most of the month for Full Service. Labor Day Weekend saw the highest performance for both segments, particularly for Full Service, hitting +5% growth over the weekend.
Food costs averaged 28% of sales last month, representing a 1% drop from the average in July.
Fresh cauliflower topped our Droppers list with prices -22% lower on average than in July, followed by green bell peppers, down -19%. On our Movers chart, fresh asparagus prices had a +40% increase compared to July prices, followed by fresh tomatoes (+18%) and fresh corn (+17%).
Regionally, every region saw positive sales all month long, with the Northeast coming in on top again, at +9% up from July.
