July 2025 national restaurant sales metrics are in!

The trailing 4-week (28-day) average of year-over-year (YOY) sales for Fast Casual came in at +3.3% and Full Service at +2% at the end of July compared to 2024 sales.

Across the 7-day moving average chart, we saw positive sales throughout the month for Fast Casual, and the best performance during the July 12th weekend. Full Service saw lower sales for the Fourth of July holiday compared to last year's numbers, while Fast Casual performed similarly to July 2024. 

Food costs averaged 29% of sales last month, representing a 1% increase from the average in June.

Six-inch flour tortillas topped our Droppers list with prices -30% lower on average than in June, followed by fresh limes, down -21%. For our Movers chart, pizza sauce prices had a +59% increase compared to May prices, followed by white bread (+31%) and teres major beef (+15%).

Regionally, most of the US saw positive sales all month long, with the Northeast coming in at +10% up from June.
